Why the Faithful Formation Project?
About the Faithful Formation Project
Faithful Formation Project is a Lilly Endowment-funded initiative that equips Christian parents and caregivers to nurture their children's faith and values. We also support pastors and congregational leaders so they can equip and strengthen parents in their congregation and community to minisitry in the home. We do this through workshops, online resources, research-informed courses, and collaboration with ministry leaders and parenting experts.
There are not yet enough progressive spaces and information where people of faith who seek resource and information can safely gain inclusive and sound direction. We hope to meet these needs celebrating the expansiveness of the Christian faith by identifying, creating, and providing new and existing resources.

Our Story
The Faithful Formation project emerged from meetings and conversations among faculty, administrators, pastors, and ministry professionals who recognized the challenges of nurturing fait in children, adolescents, and teens. While parents are the primary facilitators of passing on Christian faith and values, they are not always equipped with the necessary tools. Additionally, pastors and ministry professionals identified a need for support in providing parents with effective resources and guidance.
In 2023, Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY received a grant from the Lilly Endowment to curate online resources, provide educational training, and conduct research in the areas of children’s faith formation and family faith transmission. Our project includes the following goals:
1. Identify existing approaches to faith formation of children.
2. Conduct research in children’s spirituality and the influence of religion on family relationships.
3. Publish resources and offer educational training to pastors and ministry professionals.
4. Integrate key findings from research into graduate courses at Louisville Seminary.
5. Offer downloadable content for congregational practitioners as well as tools and resources for caregivers.
The project consists of seven people who have a passion to serve our communities, meet the challenges of faith formation in children, adolescent, and teenagers, and the facilitate inclusion through identifying non-bias and affirming resources.
